Doll Room

“I liked dolls as a child, but as an adult, I love them! They represent the good in all of us and display the diverse beauty of humankind.”
- Gayle Wray

Dolls helps nurture the imagination. Doll play sessions at Blue Papillon include planned games such as stuffed animal picnics and doll classrooms. Along with that, children are also allowed time for free play, where they can pick their toys and decide how to play with them. This teaches them social values such as sharing and collaboration. Pretend scenes from real life, such as going to school or to the park with parents, helps children deal with and absorb their day-to-day experiences. Dolls are great for boys too as they bring out the caring, nurturing side in them, boosting their emotional quotient and enabling them to be better caregivers in the future. In our doll room, dolls are used for encouraging communication and language skills through storytelling. And the most important benefit of a doll room is, of course, loads and loads of fun.

Ball Room

“Play is the highest form of research.”
- Albert Einstein

Ball pits provide a multi-sensory experience while creating a fun and relaxing environment. Kids love playing in the uninhibited, cushioned environment where they can move about freely while the balls absorb all the jerks and shocks of sudden movement. The balls massage the body, relax muscles, and encourage relaxation and the bright colours stimulate the brain. The overall effect is increased confidence, enhanced sensory skills and improved social interaction. The ball pit is highly recommended for pre-schoolers due its therapeutic effect, especially on children who experience sensory processing issues.

Indoor Gym

“Take care of your body. It is the only place you have to live.”
- Jim Rohn

Unlike adults, kids need to be active every day. This helps both physical and mental development. Making exercise a part of their daily routine helps them understand the importance of fitness from an early age. Through games centred around physical activity, we introduce children to the joy of movement-based play, which in turn reduces the chances of them becoming addicted to gadgets.

Apart from sports and outdoor games, we also have an indoor child-sized gym for those days when the weather or other conditions do not permit them to play outside. Equipped with a treadmill, exercise cycle, balance beams, and weights, this gym provides the full workout. It also has the added benefit of making the children comfortable in the gym environment when they grow up.

Montessori Room

“Since it has been seen to be necessary to give so much to the child, let us give him a vision of the whole universe.”
- Dr. Montessori

Pioneered by Dr. Maria Montessori, the Montessori method of educating young children was a ground-breaking development in the field of early education. Still used as the basis for many other methods of learning, it focuses on the many benefits of creating the right environment for children to learn. Most of our classroom design is already based on the hallmark Montessori method, such as bright colours, easily accessible learning materials, and walls displaying children’s own work.

Apart from this, we also have a special Montessori Room where children can orient themselves to the real world with objects scaled to their size, such as, small sized kitchens and beds. It serves to recreate a home-like atmosphere. Because of its small size, children can actually use these things the way they have seen adults using them. Children learn to play here, enacting real life situations and learning about the world around them. Collaborative activities also allow them to develop social skills in an environment where they feel safe and comfortable.

Audio-Visual Room

“I’m a visual thinker, not a language based thinker. My brain is like Google Images.”
- Mary Temple Grandin

According to developmental psychologist, Howard Gardner, children have seven different learning styles. Older educational methods that focus solely around rote learning or practising reading/writing only cater to a few of those learning styles. To give a truly well-rounded education to children with all the different styles of learning, materials that take an audio-visual approach have been found very successful. Also, the importance of audio-visual technology cannot be overlooked in the world of today. In order to raise a tech savvy generation that can keep pace and eventually work with cutting edge technology, their introduction to different formats or learning should begin early. Our audio-visual room is practically a kid-sized theatre where children can view movies or educational videos, and benefit from interactive learning content such as quizzes and competitions, even music lessons.

Library

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you’ll go.”
- Dr. Seuss

Being read aloud to in the early years has a significant impact on a child’s ability to read and enjoy reading later on. It helps with language development and emotional stability. Reading aloud is also a nurturing and caring act that brings the child closer to the caregiver. Social bonds with peers are strengthened through a shared interest in the same stories and books. By showing that a calm activity can be interesting and fun, we lay the foundation for a child who is able to sit down and focus when needed to do so.

Our library at Blue Papillon is stocked with a range of books to appeal to children with different temperaments, learning styles, and even moods. From picture and word books to elaborate fairy tales to simple every day stories, our library is a virtual treasure chest of books for the little ones to choose from. It is also a place of calm energy and thinking for their growing minds.
